Father in heaven,

You have revealed Yourself to us in the words and works of Your Son, our Solid Rock, Jesus Christ.

Today, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, grant us ears to hear His words and eyes to see His works, so that we may be like the wise who build their houses on sure foundations.

When the rains fall: Christ, be our hope.

When the floods come: Christ, be our stay.

When the winds blow: Christ, be our rest.

Father, by Your grace, grant us the faith to stand on Jesus Christ, the Solid Rock, and to boldly confess:

All other ground is sinking sand.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Loving God,

Your ways are not our ways, and yet we often assume You agree with us.

We fail to see with the eyes of Christ and instead project onto others our biases and experiences.

Open us to the leadings of Your Holy Spirit, suspend our judgment in order that we might first see in others Your divine image and treat them accordingly.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE   “Gloria Patri"   (Click link to listen then close YouTube page to return)

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost!  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be!  World without end, Amen, Amen!

Matthew 5:1-12

The Beatitudes

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
